Brahmavara Sports Club
WHO WE ARE
The sports club is the culmination of the aspirations of a group of sports lovers hailing from a rural location to create quality sports infrastructure in support of the youth so as to help them give an expression to their talents in sports and games. The Sports Club was established in the year 2005 as a culmination of the Three Districts Athletic Meet which was organized jointly with S.M.S. College and Bangalore Sports Club. The meet witnessed the participation of more than 3000 athletes from the three districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Coorg. The remarkable event heralded the birth of a remarkable organization – the Brahmavar Sports Club – with a commitment to promote and sustain Sports and Games in the locality. Dr. Praveen Kumar Shetty the founder President of the Club was assisted by Mr. Chandrashekar Hegde and Mr. Gregory D Silva as the Secretary and the technical adviser respectively, to lay a firm foundation by mobilizing the much needed finance to host a variety of Sports and games activities.

The Club functioned from the premises of the S.M.S. College for the next 10 years with the support of the College management, the staff and students of the college and the junior college. The Orthodox Syrian Educational Society which managed the college, joined hands with the sports club in hosting numerous events through the creation of quality sports infrastructure. This healthy collaboration spawned numerous and unprecedented sports and games activities so much so that Brahmavara become the centre of Athletic tournaments and Sports activities in this part of the State. One of the outstanding achievements of the Club was the hosting of the first ever international conference on sports medicine under the Mangalore University, jointly with the college.
Regular coaching camps encompassing Athletics, Cricket, Tennis and Shuttle badminton were organized twice a year without interruption. Hundreds of budding Athletes and sportsmen and women benefited from these. Some of them won laurels at the state and national level meets.

Why Brahmavara Sports Club?
The Club was eager to have its own premises and after a few hiccups we moved to our sprawling three acre campus in Heranje in the year 2017. During the intervening period, the club functioned from the Mother Palace complex for a few months and from the Tirumala complex for a year. We are indebted to the management of the S.M.S. Institutions for the exemplary support during the early years of Club.
Our new campus at Heranje village in Brahmavar is an excellent locale for a sports club as it has vast open spaces in all direction. The peaceful campus is very well insulated from the din of traffic but is well connected to the town by nicely laid concrete road. We have a cottage serving as the temporary office. Two international standard tennis clay courts with flood light is the most significant asset in addition to an indoor stadium with two shuttle badminton courts and an auditorium to seat around 500 people. These facilities could be created in a short period thanks to the unwavering support of our donors.
Our Swimming Pool
A standard swimming pool is one of our cherished dreams and this cherished sports asset would have been completed but for the corona pandemic that engulfed the world. We hope to complete the pool at the earliest and that would be a shot in the arm not only for the club but also 15 to the people of Brahmavar.
We propose to have an open air auditorium to seat around 1500 people and the work is ongoing besides we plan to have administrative complex with office, a gymnasium a card room and guest rooms. The club has a membership of 260 and people are drawn from different professions such as doctors, teachers, retired college lectures, engineers and businessmen. Regular meetings of the Executive committee are held so as to ensure democratic and participatory decision making in the running of the Club. A comprehensive set of Byelaws have been adopted and the accounts are audited as per the norms laid down by the Registrar of Societies, government of Karnataka.
